NEW Covenant --------------------- Jeremiah 31:31-34

NEW Covenant
---------------------

Jeremiah 31:31-34 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a NEW COVENANT with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. (Jeremiah 31:34) "And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more."

Hebrews 8:8-13 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a NEW COVENANT with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. In that he saith, A NEW COVENANT, ***he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.***

Hebrews 8:13 In that he saith, A NEW COVENANT, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

Hebrews 12:24 And to Jesus the mediator of the NEW COVENANT, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

  • Victoria Jenkins here we go again. Sorry, I don't get it. two things here. (Wow, I can't believe the way you guys are making me study these days...I always thought I knew...) First of all, I'm troubled because if we're in the NEW COVENANT (I sure thought we were) why isn't His law written in our hearts and minds and why do we still teach it? I mean, I'm under the impression by reading this that His Word will be 'automatically' written in our hearts and on our minds to the degree that we won't even need a teacher. I try to memorize Scripture every day so I know it's not there yet. Can you help me understand that? And second, if the law is done away with, why will it be written on our hearts and in our minds?
  • Bobbijo Christiansen i cant for the life of me remember scripture.. i think its his way of making me keep reading.
  • Jelena Lukic Greenwood Notice how it says: After those days...in Jeremiah verse 33, Victoria
  • Jelena Lukic Greenwood 33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will...
  • Jelena Lukic Greenwood Meaning after the New Covenant
  • Joseph R Pedalino All word and knowledge was imprinted in our minds when we were created...we were created in His image and perfect like him. We (man) made the mistake of choosing the tree of knowledge and our punishment has been the hard road back to the perfection of His divine mind. We have been forgiven our sin (bad choice) and are always welcome back to Him.
  • Victoria Jenkins ohhhh, I thought ....wait, is there a 3rd covenant? huh, no it says "For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days," OK, after what days?
  • Phil Kulis Victoria, it's very simple. Consider the Ten Commandments. They are written in stone and read "Thou Shall Not".
But when God writes it on your heart, it becomes "you won't want to because of your Love for God"

Think about it, if you love your spouse, you won't commit adultery because of your love for him/her. Your behavior is because of love, not commandment.

No one, not even God can force you to love. It is a gift of your will being submitted to others.
  • Victoria Jenkins I already know that Phil. Are you saying it's already written on my heart and in my mind because of my love for Jesus?
  • Phil Kulis Not because of your love for Jesus, but because if His love for you. All that is necessary is to recognize the source: God = Love

  • 119 Ministries Heresy Exposed by the Word 1 John 5
15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
19 We love him, because he first loved us.
  • Victoria Jenkins I've read it over and over.
  • Daphne Conner Pickren Ask the Spirit to bring the truths to light in your spirit as you read and study. Faithful is He who will bring it to pass
  • Victoria Jenkins I always do Daphne. And He is indeed faithful.
